Future Link Board of Directors Role
Future Link is seeking industry leaders who are passionate about education, interested in career development for the next generation of talent, and understand the importance of creating equity through action. Join a dynamic group and contribute to a high impact organization.
Future Link seeks to close the opportunity divide in Montgomery County, MD by providing first-generation-to-college, high potential young adults with the resources, knowledge, skills, and personalized support needed to achieve self-sufficiency. Future Link’s program yields post-secondary persistence, degree and credential attainment, and connections to employers for internships and full-time employment.
Board Responsibilities
1. Establish identity and direction, adopting strategic plans that further the mission, vision, and values of Future Link.
2. Ensure the necessary resources (financial, human, and technical) are available to support Future Link’s program and its participants.
3. Serve in an expert advisory role to Future Link’s management.
4. Provide fiscal and legal oversight.
Individual Responsibilities
- Meetings: Attend board meetings in person (Meetings are six times a year in Rockville, MD).
- Service Term: Commit to a 3-year term (terms are renewable).
- Subcommittee: Serve on an ad-hoc subcommittee as needed.
- Promote program: Leverage your personal and professional networks to seek community assistance and engagement to support Future Link’s mission by:
– Seeking internship and employment opportunities for students;
– Extending our professional volunteer network for mentors, career coaches, and tutors;
– Assisting during fundraising campaigns by asking your network to donate; and,
– Referring potential funding sources to Executive Director or Board President. - Financial Donation: Make an annual donation of at least $1,000 each fiscal year.
- Voluntary (but suggested): Engage with students through program activities such as:
– Mentor a student;
– Become a career coach;
– Host an intern at your company;
– Attend community-building events (i.e., Seminar celebration, annual picnic, volunteer events);
– Participate in the Seminar as a mock interviewer or panel speaker; and
– Provide an informational interview for a student interested in your career field.
